Wedding Music Piece of the Week

As the weather has finally brightened up and summer feels like it’s just around the corner, my wedding music piece of the week has to be Gershwin’s beautiful song ‘Summertime’ from the opera ‘Porgy and Bess’. What better way to spend your wedding reception than listening to this wonderful classic.  This song has become a popular and much recorded jazz standard described as “without doubt one of the finest songs the composer ever wrote”. Gershwin brilliantly mixes elements of jazz and the song styles of African-Americans from the early twentieth century.  The Lochrian Ensemble has a lovely string quartet arrangement of this song, which happens to be on our CD “Lochrian Lollipops”! Here it is being sung by the legendary Ella Fitzgerald. Enjoy!
