The Lochrian String Quartet are excited to be involved in a commemoration concert remembering the music of the late singer/songwriter and musician Nick Drake. As part of their commemoration of Nick Drake’s 70th anniversary they present a specially commissioned update of trumpeter and composer/arranger Nick Smart’s landmark project Black Eyed Dog, which first performed at St George’s ten years ago when its album of Nick Drake songs was originally released. Appearing in this new all-star line-up, and augmented by the Lochrian String Quartet, are pianist Kit Downes, guitarist John Parricelli, saxophonists James Allsopp and James Gardner-Bateman, vocalists Emily Wright and Alex Taylor, bassist Will Harris and drummer Tim Giles, with Nick Smart on trumpet ‘River Man’, ‘Way to Blue’, ‘Poor Boy’ and many more much-loved Nick Drake songs provide the jumping-off points for thrilling chamber-jazz arrangements, sensitive vocal interpretations and passionate soloing. The concert takes place on 19 April at St George’s, Bristol.
